Callaway New "i-brid" Irons

Callaway Golf is renowned for engineering golf technology to help regular players play better.

This year Callaway has introduced their new “i-brid” clubs.

In their promotional material Callaway states; “the goal of the new i-brid clubs was to solve the problems encountered by many aspiring golfers who struggle to hit their long irons—namely, getting the ball airborne, achieving distance gaps between their long irons and improving turf interaction.” According to Callaway, they have found that managing the distance gap between regular hybrids and irons is a problem for newer golfers. The also typically struggle with the proper way to hit a hybrid.

The “i” stands for integrated and they’re designed to close the distance gap between the long irons. Because they look like regular irons, a player doesn’t need to learn how to hit with a different kind of club.

The low, deep center of gravity helps get the ball airborne and a longer shaft in the 3, 4, and 5 help to improve clubhead speed for increased distance. Because of the low, deep center of gravity, there is a wider sole which helps new golfers as it prevents the club from digging into the turf, which means less “chunking”. This provides more confidence to hit down on the ball which will result in less thin shots as well.

The Callaway i-brids also offer a Fusion Technology version; the FT i-brids. Lightweight titanium in the body allows for a larger clubhead with increased offset for greater forgiveness and a larger hitting area. This club has an increased moment of inertia, (MOI), and better stability. In the toe and the heel of the clubhead, Callaway used a dense metal developed by Callaway engineers, called Tunite which allowed them to move the center of gravity lower and farther away from the clubface than is possible with the i-brids in the Big Bertha iron set. That means that the playing characteristics are much like a hybrid.
